As a Physics/Computer Science double major, Chemistry isn’t exactly in my areas of interest. However, because of the engaging activities and fun people, I found Chemistry Club to be very enjoyable, and I’d highly recommend it to any STEM major, and/or anyone with at least passing knowledge of the periodic table. Even though they only meet once a month as of the Fall 2022 semester, it’s still a great club to meet new people and network with other Chemistry majors.

The meeting I attended was only the second or third of the year, so most people didn’t seem to know each other yet. That being said, for a club that doesn’t see its members often, one thing that stood out to me was how prepared the leading co-President was for the meeting. She had two full Kahoot games made and ready to play, one being STEM-themed and the other being Chemistry-themed, with a total of about 40 questions. That represents a significant time investment for something that will likely only be used once or twice. In addition, if I recall correctly, the club was said to be dormant during Covid (as many clubs were), so the membership dropped significantly. That meant that the club didn’t have all of its exec positions filled, so most of the work seemed to rest on the co-Presidents. All that work provides further evidence of how dedicated many people at William and Mary are to their clubs. By the way, if you’re wondering about my results on the Kahoots considering I’m not a Chemistry major, then know that among 7 players, I got last place on the Chemistry one (though I did win the STEM one).

Because of the fun time I had at the October meeting, I went back for a liquid nitrogen ice-cream-making event on December 5th. I’m happy to report that although most of the ice cream went to those of us making it, we did give out some ice cream to people studying in the ISC Lobby :)
